Q. What do I do when I am not reading?

A. I knit – check out my free District 12 fingerless mitts pattern, inspired by Katniss of The Hunger Games – and write really bad novels while drinking way too many caffeinated beverages.

Previously, on the Dark Side…

Review: Falling Hard by J.K. Coi

Rocker. Emotionally scarred bad boy. Literal inner demons. Possible apocalypse. OK; truth be told, this book had me at the “rocker” and the rest was just icing on an already tempting brownie… Summary: After a life filled with tragedy, rocker … Continue reading

“What use are experiences if we’re not allowed to remember them, if we forget in order to avoid the pain of loss?”

Review: The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

9166877

Three pages into this story, my inner bookworm stood up and boogied around the room, squealing like a four-year-old on Christmas morning. This gleeful reaction made writing a normal review challenging, so I’m going to try something different and offer … Continue reading

Q. Let’s step away from besties…What is the worst book that you’ve ever read and actually finished?

A. I make a book work hard to earn my read, so I generally like what I end up reading. When I don’t like it, I usually just don’t finish reading it! Why waste the time?

That being said, if I have to pick one… I’ll go with Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. I was one of many introduced to the paranormal genre by the series, and have actually read the first three books more than once…but not Breaking Dawn. Too much wish gratification, not enough death.

(Makes me sound horribly morbid, doesn’t it?)

District 12 Fingerless Mitts Pattern

two

District 12 is cold, and coated with coal dust from the mines. The people are hungry and poor, and only the resourceful survive. If Katniss were here, I think she’d approve of the versatility of these fingerless mitts/armwarmers/sleeves-without-a-sweater. Pull ‘em … Continue reading
