Gwen was tugging on my heartstrings while I read Kiss of Frost this week,
because I can
remember that heart-achy feeling of being young and drawn to somebody who wouldn’t – or couldn’t – love you back…I think this song captures the essence of the book perfectly, how it’s possible to be torn up by love, but strong enough to stand on your own…
I’m weak in the knees for you,
But I’ll stand if you want me to…
My legs are strong and I’ll move on,
But, honey, I’m weak in the knees for you…
Theme Song Saturday: Kiss of Frost
I’m sure Divergent will be in dozens of posts today – and for GOOD REASON, says I! Divergent captures the power of storytelling – it is simple yet complicated, entertaining yet haunting, and features a heroine who is strong in mind, spirit, and soul. Love it!
My other top pick for this year is Perception by independent author Heather Cashman. Not only is her writing beautiful and compelling, but her characters climbed out of the book and took up residence in my imagination. This is a story of family, coming of age, finding love, chasing destiny…and woven throughout it all is a theme that has lingered in my mind long past reading the novel: if we could see the world and ourselves through the eyes of those who love us, how would that knowledge change us?
Theme Song Saturday: Dearly, Departed
My humor is so twisted, that I couldn’t help but think these lyrics are PERFECT for a zombie romance. I mean… Fallin’ apart. *snickers* Review of Dearly, Departed is coming soon – but in the mean time, join me for … Continue reading

Elastigirl, without a doubt! If there were any justice in the universe, all mothers of multiples would inherit her super-powers…

Q. If you could pick one character in a book, movie or AND television show to swap places with, who would it be?
Book: Kate Daniels
(But ONLY if switching places means I inherit her sword-fighting and magical skills, because without those, I’d never last a day in her world. Although, it might be worth it, for the chance to spend some time with Curran…)
Movie: Hiccup
(Because my dragon is in SERIOUS need of training…and who wouldn’t want to go flying through the sunset to that amazing soundtrack? I mean, seriously…)
TV Show: Lisa from Supernatural
(Dean. ’nuff said.)

Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story? If so, which one?
I’d like to sound all dark and cool, but truthfully, I usually cheer for the good guys. The closest I’ve come to wanting a villain to win is Mastermind…and, well, he sort of stops being a villain by the end of the (absolutely brilliant) movie. So I guess the accurate thing to say would be that I love antiheroes, but villains must lose.
Previously, on the Dark Side…
I was trampled by stamping children on their way to school, and coworker cut back her hours so I’m working more hours at my paying job. *sigh* Still, I managed to read and review Redemption, Dark Beauty, and Paranormalcy…nekkid spelunking, smelly vamps, and an incredibly funny heroine. Have I mentioned I love variety?

Q. If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? Why and to what?
I’d change the way Rachel Vincent’s Shifters series ended. While I understood the choices made by all the characters, I wasn’t happy with the final configuration of the love triangle. I would definitely change who ended up with whom, because I think the person you spend your life with should make you HAPPY.
Just a thought.

BJ had a freakin’ awesome week of reading; it was like the stories all turned to gold in her hands. Or something. At any rate, Broken proved that superheroes and dystopia blend nicely, Hammered contained a crazily high humor quotient as well as wise life lessons (watch out for squirrels!), and the amazing characters in Perception jumped off the page and won her over completely. (In fact, she’s giving away a copy! Enter, and read for yourself!)
